Changes to your listing on visitscotland.com

The VisitScotland extranet is no longer available.

Last year we took the decision to retire the current Extranet listings and accommodation search, and launch a Google Maps-powered feature. This will let visitors explore businesses and points of interest using text search, category filters, and an interactive map, with options to continue in Google Maps or link directly to websites and booking platforms.

From 21 January, you are no longer able to update your current business listing on visitscotland.com and access to the extranet has been removed.

Being found on visitscotland.com

The best way to ensure your business can still be found on visitscotland.com is to maintain a verified Google Business Profile. Businesses with Google Business Profiles will no longer need to maintain separate business listings on visitscotland.com, saving time and simplifying updates.

Background to this change

Recent research shows that national tourism websites like ours are most valuable at the inspiration and research stages of the customer journey, not at the point of booking. That’s why we’re shifting our focus to help visitors form plans for their trip to Scotland using immersive storytelling and mapping features that use real time / trusted information sources that visitors recognise.

Visitors can continue exploring in Google Maps or navigate directly to business websites or booking platforms. This change responds directly to visitor needs and will see our current listings and product search retired, which includes the accommodation availability search.

In early February, we’ll introduce a new site search feature on the website, and the existing product search functionality will be retired. (Please note: Tours businesses will not be affected by this change.)
