Comrie Croft is a farm reimagined for the 21st century with accommodation, food and drink, biking, outdoor spaces and more.

Take a look at their website's design.

Their whole website helps tell a clear story – what they do, why they do it, and what they have to offer their customers.

They use strong visuals – they have a space at the top of each page for a video or image of the farm. Their images showcase the outdoors and paint that picture of what a customer can expect when they arrive.

They have a clear navigation and design – their top menu shows all their individual products, with sub-navigation items to find out more. Pages follow a similar layout, with clear text links and buttons for finding out more or booking. Every topic is catered for.

Jack’s Alt-Stays, Millport

Jack’s is a family business creating unique stays on Cumbrae that are inclusive, sustainable and community centric.

Take a look a their website, particularly Jacks blog page.

Their whole website is easy to use – there is a clear navigation with easy-to-understand terms, while the site design is clean and uses a few set colours to help highlight buttons.

They provide a range of blogs on things to do in the area – their customers might know why they’ve coming to Cumbrae but still be looking for other things to do in the area. They provide a number of suggestions from walking and cycling to places to eat or walk the dog.

They offer clear travel information – as an island, travel to Cumbrae requires more planning and Jack’s provides step-by-step instructions with maps, videos, diagrams and timetables.

They include detailed information on their climate plan – Jack’s talk about 10 things they are doing for the planet and why it is important to them. It’s not just a cursory mention on the homepage – they back up their sustainable credentials with detail.

Saltdog Marine, Dundee

Saltdog Marine offer boat trips within the beautiful River Tay on the east coast of Scotland.

Take a look at the booking system on their website.

Their booking system shows live availability – at a glance customers can see when trips are running and how many spaces are left.

Their booking system is easy to find – it’s featured right near the top of the homepage with all tours available, as well as on the trips page when you click book now for each type of tour.

The listing displays key information and imagery – the business listing within the system shows their Tripadvisor reviews, images of the experience and key practical information such as meeting points and what to wear.

Social media

The Boatshed, Lochgoilhead

Running for the last six years, this café sits alongside the wider boat trips and hire business on Loch Goil.

They focus in on their unique selling point – the incredible view from their outdoor tables of the loch.

They try to post consistently – social media prefers accounts who show up consistently.

The image composition is well considered – the crop of the image focuses on the view and is uncluttered.

Island Larder, Lerwick

A small family-owned confectionery retail business who are passionate about showcasing Shetland’s amazing produce.

They focus on what makes them unique – Nicola’s videos went viral because everyone was fascinated by her Shetland accent and dialect.

They go behind the scenes – their videos showcase all parts of the process, from making the produce to boxing it up, and what life is like in the kitchen.

They post consistently – there’s always a new recipe or product to showcase and narrate.
